The Nokia N900 is a PDA smart phone which is built with a work horse principle behind its stylish design. The handset provides the ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz processor for its integral operations whilst supplying a dedicated PowerVR SGX graphics to compliment and enhance its graphics capabilities. The operating system is the Maemo 5 system, which has been proven as a reliable and effective operating system in previous models.
A 5 mega pixel camera is integrated into the phone with an operating resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. To help in taking effective images, the user is armed with auto focus and a dual LED flash as well as Carl Zeiss optics. Geo tagging, which is able to reference images by location is also provided. For those who prefer the moving image rather than static, video recording and playback at WVGA quality video at 25 frames per second is available. Video at VGA quality is also available by virtue of a secondary camera.
The phones large display screen is excellent quality and is a 3.5 inch TFT touch screen. True life colour representation is provided by the fact that the screen accurately displays up to 16 million colours at a pixel size of 800 x 400. To compliment the screen, an accelerometer sensor is provided, whilst the built in proximity sensor saves on battery life. If the user wants to enter data, the full QWERTY keyboard can simply be accessed from behind the screen and is simple to use and fully functional.
The HSDPA and Wi-Fi connections within the phone offer the latest and best speeds of internet access. In fact with speeds of up to 10 Mbps, web browsing is simply excellent. GPRS, EDGE, HSCSD, Blue tooth and microUSB are also all included within the phones extensive connectivity package. For satellite navigation the phone provides GPS with A-GPS support which utilises Ovi maps.
The phone comes with an internal memory of 32 Gb. An MP3/MP4 player is provided as well as an FM stereo radio. A document viewer and photo editor complete the ensemble.
The Nokia N900 is a comprehensive handset with many features. All of the functions offer something different and the phone excels in many ways. Its compact size, which is similar to the Nokia 6760, is down to clever design and effective use of available space. It has been pencilled in for release in November 2009, and is eagerly anticipated.
